18th-century Italian violinists trained in the tradition of Arcangelo Corelli, spreading his elegant, expressive and virtuosic style on their travels throughout Europe. Giovanni Mossi’s sonatas retain Corelli’sdramatic contrasts and structure, while Giovanni Stefano Carbonelli also incorporates features found in music by Vivaldi. Both composers’ works combine formal elegance with wild abandon, lyrical charm and virtuosity alongside plenty of room for improvisation from acclaimed soloist Augusta McKay Lodge.

Critics’ Choice 2021 – Joseph Magil
American Record Guide – January/February 2022
“… These are stylish performances, in which the connection between Corelli and his followers comes clearly off. I also like the committed and colourful accompaniments of the basso continuo group. Lovers of the baroque violin should not hesitate to purchase this disc, which is a substantial and musically compelling addition to the discography.”

“… these are exceptionally fine performances, and I look forward to hearing more from Lodge and her collaborators.”
James V Maiello – Fanfare – July/August 2021
"...They [Lodge continuo section] change the instrumentation for the different pieces, so there is a pleasant variety of sounds. The effects are often wonderful, like the opening Adagio of Corelli's Op. 5:3 Violin Sonata, which evokes a warm spring breeze blowing in the window. Lodge and her group have an excellent feel for textures abetted by the very full, clear recorded sound ..."

“The accomplished young Baroque violinist Augusta McKay Lodge brings her considerable musical elegance and strong personality to bear in this fascinating program of early 18th-century sonatas for violin and continuo… The lone Corelli work on the disc is one of his greatest, the Sonata Op.5, No.3 in C Major, and the performance is sensational, a great combination of fire, precision and risk-taking. This is playing of great clarity that brings out the harmonic tension, melodic beauty and rhythmic interest in Corelli’s music… The continuo band is a powerhouse and provides strong support to Lodge, who is clearly emerging as one of the most eloquent and interesting Baroque violinists around.”
